Avicii representative says reports of a new album are “just rumours”
Previous reports have been confirmed as being unfounded...
A representative of Avicii has stated that reports of plans for a new full-length album from the deceased artist later this year are inaccurate.
Despite previous reports that the family of the DJ/producer – real name Tim Bergling – and the head of his former label Geffen Records, Neil Jacobson had green lighted the release a collection of finished tracks that he had been working on prior to his tragic death last month, a new report has stated that the statements were unfounded.
“Tim had been working on new material and had posted 9-ish photos and Instagram stories about his sessions this year," Diana Baron, Avicii's PR representative, told Billboard. "As of this moment, these stories about a scheduled release are just rumours coming from hopeful fans who loved Tim and his music.”
Speculation first began following (mis)translations that appeared in the Swedish publication Aftonbladet, making fans hopeful that a fresh collection of work might be in the pipeline, a la Prince. A follow-up to Avicii's feted 2015 LP, 'Stories', had been confirmed last year, with Geffen Records president, Neil Jacobson, describing the work as 'his best music in years'. Only time will tell if anyone ever gets to hear it.
Avicii was found dead in his hotel room in Oman last month (20th April) with his family releasing a statement implying he has taken his own life. He was 28 years old.
Since then, tributes for Avicii have poured in from fellow DJs, friends and fans with Nile Rodgers saying he was “one of the best, if not the best” producer he’s ever worked with. Last weekend at EDC Las Vegas Tiësto paid tribute to Avicii by playing a 12-minute megamix of some of his biggest hits.
