Stevie B-Zet, a pioneer of the Frankfurt trance scene, has died, aged 62.

The German musician and producer, real name Steffen Britzke, passed away on 27th July, according to a Facebook post shared last Wednesday (2nd August) by Britzke's former bandmate and long-time friend, Ralf Hildenbeutel.

"I have no real words and it's still a shock that Steffen, our Stevie B-Zet, has passed away last Thursday," wrote Hildenbeutel. "When we met I was 17. We've done and experienced so much together. We played in the same band when I was still in school, then the incredible Eye Q years, the Schallbau era and lots of film scores together. My thoughts to his beloved ones."

An originator of the 1990s trance movement, the Frankfurt-born Britzke is known for his collaborative project with Sven Väth, Astral Pilot, other projects like Odyssee of Noises and Zyon and for a string of releases on Väth's Eye Q Records, including 'Everlasting Pictures (Right Through Infinity)', 'No Fate', and 1994's 'Blue Illusion.'

Britzke also released a number of albums under his B-Zet moniker and worked as a keyboard player for artists including Quincy Jones and Sheila E. Often working with Hildenbeutel, he also composed the score for several German films and television shows, including 'Mondscheintarif' and 'Vincent will meer.'
