MISTAJAM AND DANNY HOWARD TO REPLACE ANNIE MAC ON BBC RADIO 1

BBC Radio 1 have revealed that MistaJam and Danny Howard will cover Annie Mac’s show when she takes maternity leave from January 2017.

MistaJam, who joined Radio 1Xtra in 2005 and currently presents their 7pm-10pm show Monday-Thuursday, will do the same days on Radio 1’s new music show, whilst Howard will cover Mac’s 7pm-10pm dance show on Friday nights.

Since winning BBC Radio 1’s Superstar DJ award back in 2012, Howard has gone on to pull in 1.8 million weekly listeners on his Saturday 4pm-7pm slot on the channel, whilst he also hosts a weekly slot on America’s SiriusXM, and his own Nothing Else Matters online radio show.

This year also saw Danny launch his Nothing Else Matters label, which has already seen success with 99 Souls’ ‘The Girl Is Mine’.

Speaking about the takeover, Howard said, “It’s absolutely surreal to be looking after the biggest dance and electronic music radio show in the world, and an honour to be sitting in Annie’s seat.

“I’ve been listening to the show on Radio 1 religiously for the last 10 years, so I’m beyond excited to contribute to everything it stands for in breaking artists, delivering the best in new music and most of all, officially starting the weekend on BBC Radio 1.”

BBC Radio 1 and Radio 1 Xtra controller, Ben Cooper, also announced plans to make the station “the Netflix of music radio” earlier this week, as they are set to launch 25 hours of exclusive on-demand programming every week this autumn.
