SYS Sister Sounds (SSS) will release a new charity compilation, ‘Grounded’, later this month. Listen exclusively to Cloudy Ku’s contribution, ‘Proustian Moment’, below.

Landing on 20th October, ‘Grounded’ features music from eight women and non-binary producers from across Asia and its diaspora, each of whom brings a flair for warm, floating melodies, gentle beats, and crystalline percussion.

“This compilation is more than just a collection of songs. It’s a union between producers from different Asian countries,” said founder of SSS, Maggie Tra. “I love showcasing new talent, and I hope the world hears and supports more Asian female and NB music producers after this compilation is released.”

Sydney’s Wytchings kicks the release into gear with the rousing ‘Doraemon’, an atmospheric epic loaded with billowing synths and muffled chanting, while SSS returners Jo Ngo and Chaulichi experiment with a darker, more experimental palette on their contributions.

Runa Mont, who hails from Ho Chi Minh City, taps into a restless, undulating energy on ‘Silent Mood At The Weekend’, while Tra pairs warming pads and cyborg synths on ‘Soft Spot’; her first music on the label since her second solo album, ‘Very Vui’ (‘vui’ meaning happy in Vietnamese), released earlier this summer.

Leviathe and Arin lead the project to its melodic conclusion, but not before Taiwan-born, Australia-based producer Cloudy Ku makes her label debut with ‘Proustian Moment’. Described by Ku as a “collage of memories lost in time,” the track intersperses crashing ambient soundscapes with clubby interludes as it crawls its way into nail-biting levels of intensity.

“I feel very honoured to be a part of this compilation,” she added, “I am inspired by all the artists involved and appreciate what I have and this opportunity to give as well.”

Profits from ‘Grounded’ will go towards charity Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation – an organisation based in Vietnam supporting street kids and rescue victims from slavery and human trafficking.

The ‘Grounded’ V/A compilation will be available via SSS’s Bandcamp from 20th October. Listen exclusively to Cloudy Ku’s ‘Proustian Moment’ below.
