Stockholm is getting a new club in a 100-year-old slaughterhouse

Stockholm is getting a new club with a very meaty setting: Kvarteret, housed within a 100-year-old remodelled slaughterhouse. 

Located in the city’s slaughterhouse district, the 2,200-capacity Kvarteret, Swedish for “the neighbourhood,” will feature two outdoor and two indoor spaces. The venue, billed as a music, art and theatre space, will also include themed areas that will cater to specific musical styles and atmospheres depending on the time and day, including Fristaden (Freetown), Kyrkan (The Church), Gatan (The Yard) and Torget (The Square).

The opening season kicks off this June and runs through September, with the club hosting five nights a week and featuring wide-ranging programming and bookings covering techno, grime, dance hall, disco, house and more. 

So far, Kvarteret has confirmed a number of acts that range from major headliners to up-and-comers including Jackmaster, DJ Tennis, Carl Craig, Larry Heard, Mano Le Tough, Avalon Emerson and Mall Grab, with more to be announced.

The venue aims to “cater to all various creative expressions caught in the fringes of the incumbent art establishment,” according to Pulse Radio. It will also host art exhibitions, film screenings and immersive theatre in addition to the music programming.

The venue will announce details regarding its opening night and inaugural line-up 16th May at 6pm CEST via its members' list. They are also offering free entry to the opening night party to those who sign up for the members' list.
