Sidechain compression is a ducking effect that can be used to separate different elements in your track. It usually works by one element being sidechained by another and cancelling out a certain sound or frequency. It’s a great tool to use if you’ve got clashing elements or frequencies in your track such as a kick drum and bass and can result in a much cleaner sounding mix.
Arturia are giving away a free plugin – a plate reverb effect – as a Christmas gift. The plugin emulates the legendary EMT140 plate reverb plugin, with controls over time, modulation, pre-delay and some basic EQ and filter controls. There's also a Drive knob to give the effect some crunch and character, as well as a modulation section and a width option.
The plugin is a free download until December 31st – simply register on or log in to Arturia's website to get access to it.
