It was with swagger that Cielo celebrated 10 years this February, doffing its cap to a decade in the city that once stood as the US' No.1 clubbing spot.

With a (second) licensing crackdown and a US dance music renaissance since its birth, Nicolas Matar's recently renovated high-end spot still stands in New York's Meatpacking District despite an onslaught of list-and-bottle r&b bars in recent years.

Taking its name from the room at Pacha (El Cielo) where its maker made his name as a resident 20 years ago, Cielo has stayed true to its role as a bona fide spot for original house and disco music. Francois K's Deep Space party reigns on, as does Paradizo with Willie Graff, while there's fresh blood in the form of Dance.Here.Now and Nervous Records.
