Yasiin Bey (FKA Mos Def) new album to be released as live experience sound installation

Negus will be presented as an ‘immersive listening experience’ at Brooklyn Museum

The new album by American rapper Yasiin Bey, FKA Mos Def, can only be heard in person at Brooklyn Museum.

The US debut of ‘Negus’, which was co-produced by London artists Lord Tusk, Acyde and Steven Julien (aka FunkinEven), is being presented as an ‘immersive listening experience’ at the museum until January 26th.

'Negus' will not see a digital release, and listeners will be instructed to lock their phones away when they enter the gallery. Only then will they be able to listen to the eight-track 28-minute album.

Described as a ‘live experience sound installation’, the Brooklyn premiere marks the 20th anniversary of Bey’s 'Black on Both Sides', which is recognised as one of hip-hop’s most influential albums.

The exhibition includes artworks by Ala Ebtekar, Julie Mehretu, and José Parlá, created in collaboration with Bey, as well as original music by celebrated pianist by Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou.

Purchase tickets online through Showclix. All tickets are for a specific date and time, with 75 tickets available each hour.

FunkinEven shared the album’s tracklist on Twitter.

Earlier this year, Halcyon opened a new record store in Brooklyn.
