Vinyl sales were over five times higher in 2018 than in 2013
Cassettes are also apparently seeing a gradual increase in popularity...
New research conducted alongside online record shop Norman Records has uncovered that vinyl sales increased fivefold in the period from 2013 to the end of 2018.
The information, released by the BPI, chimes with increased interest in vinyl in recent years, and Norman Records' own figures also showed a huge 450% increase in vinyl sales over the past 10 years.
The new research also suggests that cassettes are making a gradual but significant comeback with sales having increased tenfold between 2013 and last year. Data from Norman Records concludes that the popularity of films such as Guardians of the Galaxy with cassette releases attached to them can be partly attributed to the comeback in recent years.

Discogs recently reported that almost 11 million records were sold via the online music marketplace last year, while an app called Disco FM was launched earlier this month with the aim of helping record diggers track down clips of the records in front of them.
