UK dance music industry pens open letter urging young people to vote
Over six million young people did not vote in the last election
Numerous figures from across the UK dance music industry have signed an open letter urging young Brits to vote.
The letter comes in the wake of a concerning statistic: over six million young people did not vote in the last election, and more than half of those aged 18-34 were not even registered to vote.
DJ Mag, Annie Mac, Bicep, Jessie Ware, Glastonbury, Girls Don't Sync, Fat Tony, Eliza Rose, Ninja Tune, SHERELLE, HAAI, Foundation FM, AVA Festival, and over 50 more in the industry have signed the letter via the Give An X campaign.
The letter reads: “We see you. We hear you. We see you streaming our tracks, we hear you sharing them with your friends. We see you dancing at our gigs, we hear you singing along. We see you at protests, sharing on social media, supporting your communities - we know you care about this country and the people in it.”
“The people in power listen to the voters. They listen to what the voters care about. When you don’t vote, the people in power don’t listen to us. You raise your voices at our sets. Now it’s time to raise them at the ballot box. Let’s turn it up. Let’s stand up and be counted. Register to vote today and make your voice heard.”
If you have not done so already, Brits can register to vote here before 11:59 PM tonight (16th April) ahead of the London Mayoral Elections on 2nd May.
