TYGAPAW, Juliana Huxtable, Russell E.L. Butler, McKenzie Wark to discuss techno’s “roots and permutations” in livestreamed panel
The panel is in collaboration with TYGAPAW’s first solo institutional exhibition, 3WI
Montez Press Radio is hosting a conversation discussing techno’s “roots and permutations” in Manhattan later this month.
Artists Juliana Huxtable, Russell E.L. Butler and TYGAPAW, and writer McKenzie Wark, will join curator Guy Weltchek live on the radio from 46 Canal Street to explore the nuances of techno as it exists the globalised gig economy, and "its material conditions, particularly the ways it has been hybridized and recontextualized as it is marketed, historicized, and continues to mutate". The panel – titled ‘Techno is everything you haven’t imagined yet’ – is presented in conjunction with TYGAPAW’s first solo institutional exhibition, 3WI, on view until 17th February at Art Omi.
“Simultaneously existing as a commodity in the nightlife economy and a hugely influential musical form connected to a rich lineage of Black music, techno is uniquely suited to frame the panel’s conversation about the ways in which culture is instrumentalized more broadly in the globalized gig economy,” Montez Press Radio shared on Instagram.
The discussion, which kicks off at 6pm, will be followed by a DJ set by Brooklyn techno artist, WTCHCRFT.
