These are the Top 30 UK club events in October 2018

fabric 19th Birthday, No Bounds Festival, Simple, Simple Things Festival, At One, Terminal V...

If there were arguments as to whether the UK’s regional cities were undergoing an electronic renaissance then this month settles it.

Not that London’s October doesn’t mean business. Fabric turns 19, so European door times hit Farringdon with an equally long list of players and Sunday atmosphere that’s hard to replicate. Not sold? Make Me unleashes an enviably astute line-up too— Mumdance, dnb legend Storm, politicised house deity Sprinkles and recent DJ Mag Cheeky Bubbler, Breakwave

Team Rupture are also here, toe-to-toe with Samurai for futurist junglism via Loxy and Presha, Digital, Double O, Mantra, Clarity and The Untouchables. Which is before we get to house royalty and new school treats at Printworks for Hydra— Moodymann, Marcellus Pittman, Omar S, MoxieDâm-Funk. And Egg getting organic via Jan Blomqvist live, Disco Halal’s Chaim and YokoO

Nevertheless, outside the Big Smoke buzz points abound. Sheffield’s No Bounds Festival rightly gets #1 in the North— props to mastermind Lo Shea of Hope Works, who’s drafted a wealth of techno innovators, not least Houndstooth’s otherworldly priestess and one of our recent interviewees, Aïsha Devi, live powerhouse duo Giant Swan, darkroom heroes Demdike Stare, Timedance next leveller Batu and Plant Mu boss Mike Paradinas

That’s before we mention underwater art installations and how legit South Yorkshire’s biggest town is. But let’s move on. Trentemøller plays live for the first and only time in the UK this year— at the aesthetically stunning Church, Leeds. And CEM, resident at Berlin’s notorious must-attend hoedown, Herensauna, hits Manchester (well, Salford), for Meat Free with Smart Bar star du jour Eris Drew and DVS1

Away from the North, Simple Things touches down in Bristol, easily one of Europe’s top city fests. Don’t miss Kamaal Williams by day, and for nocturnal tips Concrete’s new-ish resident Deena Abdelwhad is one of the most impressive players we’ve heard all year. Oh, and our October cover star, DJ Stingray, will also be knocking about.

Sticking to the West Country, Truss and Tessela, who have a keen understanding of what UK rave should sound like, head for Bristol with elusive Leeds hero, Happa. And Scottish genre splicer Eclair Fifi visits Bath while Ferro— A&R of Amsterdam tech crew VBX— attends the next Dogruff in Cardiff.

Leicester trumps all in the Midlands— Mall Grab’s there on a Friday, and Chi-town maestro Justin Long is in the postcode, too. Up in Nottingham, Wigflex’s birthday involves the majesty of Nathan Fake live, Acid Arab and Lena Willikens. And House of God returns to Birmingham, meaning anyone who missed the unabashed ferocity of pre-millennial techno nights will leave with a newfound appreciation for life.

Scotland’s big on Halloween, as per— Terminal V is top, but Ansome and Perc, Slam with Aisha and Dave Clarke’s electro set all make Maximum Pressure similarly unmissable. Less spookily, another of our office favourites, rRoxymore, joins local Studio Barnhus affiliate Wheelman in Glasgow. And an Edinburgh swimming pool hosts underground crews Hybrid and Overground (oh the irony) for an evening session.

Ireland, on the other hand, has Canadian enigma Peach at Belfast’s intimate Speakeasy with Holly Lester. Not forgetting the South, where Loefah plays nothing but 140BPMs for less than £5, James Holden & The Animal Spirits are live at a university auditorium dedicated to Dicky Attenborough and Bugged Out! captures a Margate amusement park.

As ever more complete listings can be found in the latest UK edition of DJ Mag— October 2018 or Issue 586, if you’re counting.
