Technics’ latest turntable features award-winning design

The iF Design Awards say the SL-1200 is “redefining the benchmark” of direct drive players...

Technics’ SL-1200 turntable, which they revealed last January, has been honoured with an iF Design Award.

The first in their 1200 series since the MK6 in 2008, the turntable costs twice as much as the previous 1210s, a price tag that Technics’ CTO, Tetsuya Itani, explained shortly after it was announced.

In the definition of why the gong was given, those at the iF Design Awards said the SL-1200 is “redefining the benchmark” for direct drive players.

Technics were forced to confirm their commitment to the DJ community in February, after Hiro Morishita, a creative director at the brand, said it was “problematic” in an interview in January.
