Steve Aoki used some recent interview time to promote more inclusiveness across clubland and the festival landscape. The Dim Mak label founder called on male DJs to “step aside to make room for women DJs and women producers on festivals.”
Speaking to Channel 4 News, the American EDM sensation stated that booking the hottest acts currently in the scene didn’t provide opportunity for diversity and that male talent buyers and performers should “be an ally and supporter and invite [women] to play with them."
As noted by Billboard, Dim Mak doesn’t have the best history of discovering, supporting and developing female talent. Though the label has nurtured the careers of Iggy Azalea and Lil Boots.
While mostly associated only with his cake-tossing, Aoki has been a supporter of several noteworthy causes.
