Spotify’s HiFi tier, which promised “CD-quality” streaming, has been delayed indefinitely. The new subscription alternative, which was announced in February 2021 and rivals alternatives from TIDAL and Apple Music, is now not being released as planned, with no date in place for when the tier will launch.

Variety originally reported the delay, which was posted in Spotify’s own Community when users enquired about the launch of the service. A Spotify employee responded: “We know that HiFi quality audio is important to you. We feel the same, and we’re excited to deliver a Spotify HiFi experience to Premium users in the future. But we don’t have timing details to share yet.”

As the year anniversary of the announcement approaches, there’s no firm date yet as to when Spotify HiFi will launch.
