Skrillex 'Sorry' lawsuit has been dropped

Claimant, Casey Dienel, has filed to stop proceedings

Skrillex's 'Sorry' lawsuit has been dropped, with the claimant, White Hinterland— AKA singer Casey Dienel— filing papers to stop the legal action. 

Dienel had stated that Skrillex and Justin Bieber's 2015 hit single, 'Sorry', mimicked 'unique characteristics of the female vocal riff' featured on her own 2014 song, 'Ring The Bell'. In an interview with the website Pitchfork, she said representatives of Bieber had been approached regarding the matter, and offered an opportunity for private dialogue, but this was refused. 

As such she began proceedings against the pop superstar and EDM hitmaker, also involving 'Sorry' co-writers, Julia Michaels, Justin Tranter, and Michael Tucker (BloodPop); claiming  "keyboard synthesizers, samples, synth bass, drums, and percussion" had been copied from her original work, too. Reports have now come in that the lawsuit will not be taken forward, although details as to why are unclear.

This isn't the first time Skrillex has made headlines for his collaborations— we ran through his impressive history of working with others here, and that was before this summer's effort with Poo Bear came along, meanwhile his work alongside Rick Ross earned him an Electronic Music Awards nomination ('Purple Lamborghini'). But it is the first time one has landed him in such hot water.
