Danish Audio brand AIAIAI has teamed up with SHERELLE’s BEAUTIFUL platform to launch a free London Community studio aimed at opening doors for Black and queer artists.

The new free-to-use production studio, located in North London, will provide a community space for Black and queer electronic artists to record on a range of professional equipment, including AIAIAI’s headphones, without financial and accessibility constraints.

Speaking on the project, SHERELLE said: “In the current climate that we are currently in, many things are getting more expensive, and people need to divert their money elsewhere. It’s fantastic to have an initiative like this alongside AIAIAI, which also believes in the same principle of allowing people to create more freely. Hopefully, we can make more of these and do this internationally!”

The new studio comes as part of an ongoing partnership between SHERELLE and AIAIAI, with the audio brand funding a number of free workshops and exhibitions for the BEAUTIFUL community and numerous Black and LGBTIQI+ artists throughout 2022.

SHERELLE founded the BEAUTIFUL platform back in May 2021 in response to the whitewashing and erasure of both Black and queer history within electronic music. She linked up with artists such as Loraine James, Scratcha DVA, Nia Archives, and TAAHLIAH to release an 18-track compilation entitled ‘BEAUTIFUL VOL. 1’, in August 2021.

Frederik Jørgensen, the founder of AIAIAI added: “Increasing access for artists is a key focus for AIAIAI. After seeing the impact of our studio partnership with BEAUTIFUL over the past year, we are expanding our set up and moving into a larger studio, as well as opening the space for even more artists through an open application process. Through this we hope to remove more obstacles for developing artists in the community.”

To apply for a space in the studio, Black and queer artists can submit applications here. The open application will be open from today (16th May).
