Parklife festival has banned potato peelers

Parklife festival has banned potato peelers from the Manchester event, which just announced its line-up for this year’s instalment, taking place on 9th and 10th June. 

The situation has unfolded after organisers were inundated with queries from ticket holders looking to bring the kitchen utensils with them to watch Liam Gallagher’s headline slot. The indie rock star was performing in London last November and requested on Twitter for a fan to turn up to the show with a peeler and potato, poking fun at brother Noel who had someone playing scissors at one of his shows.

Sacha Lord-Marchionne, Parklife founder and the main man behind The Warehouse Project, told the Manchester Evening News that his team had been “blown away at how many people have asked to bring potato peelers for Liam’s main stage performance.” 

Understandably concerned about the combination of large crowds and sharp metal tools, the decision has been made to ban the items altogether. This isn’t the first time we have heard about strange bans at major summer events. In 2017 Reading and Leeds opted to add pineapples to the list of contraband due to concerns fans of the band Glass Animals would arrive with the fruit en mass, referencing a line in one of the outfit’s songs. 

Liam is one of many high profile live acts on the Parklife bill this time round, with The XX sharing heading duties, A$AP Rocky, Skepta and N.E.R.D. also involved. Overall the event remains dance music and DJ heavy, though, with the likes of Carl Cox, Nina Kraviz, Adam Beyer and Andy C set to play, potentially to the disdain of Liam, an outspoken hater of electronic music.
