One of the great Daft Punk sampling mysteries has finally been solved after an enterprising Redditor uncovered the main sample from Daft Punk's 1997 track, 'Fresh'.
Until this week, no one knew which track Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter sampled for their track 'Fresh', which features on the duo's legendary debut album 'Homework'.
Apparently, the Redditor was randomly looking through old disco records to sample for his own music, just like Daft Punk were back in 1996, and came across Viola Wills’ 1981 disco song ‘If You Leave Me Now’.
Immediately, he realised he'd heard the track's main hook before, and after a bit of checking realised he had stumbled across the very sample that Daft Punk had used for their track 'Fresh'.
There's a handy video below which shows how the sample was looped, pitched, fed through a load of EQ's and then paired with muffled 909 kick for Daft Punk's version.
