New York nightclub Output, synonymous with the underground electronic scene in Brooklyn, is to close after its building has been sold for $7.4 million.
Output organisers confirmed the sale in a four-page Instagram post, saying “it is with that same familiar mix of melancholy sentimentality and deep satisfaction” that “the party is over”.
The permanent closure will arrive on 1st January 2019, finishing with a New Year’s Eve marathon party featuring John Digweed.
They attributed the end of the club to “rapidly shifting social trends”, unfavourable market conditions and weakening finances, in a highly emotional statement which paid tribute to the Output family that made the club what it was for five years.
The mission of the brand would have to be betrayed for the club be financially sustainable, they added.

Output launched in 2013 as one of the first full-sized licensed venues dedicated to house and techno in Brooklyn.
