New York has a new 140-capacity club, Outer Heaven
The Bowery venue has two rooms — a cocktail lounge and a "microclub" — fitted with Danley soundsystems designed by the founder of Output and Cielo
There's a new club open in New York City for dance music heads.
Outer Heaven is a 140-capacity, two-room space in the Bowery district of Manhattan. It has a cocktail lounge with turntables and mixer called The Record Bar and a "microclub" with a raised DJ booth, according to Resident Advisor. Both rooms are fitted with a Danley soundsystem designed by Nicolas Matar, of Cielo and Output.
The venue's team told RA the musical programming is inspired by "Andrew Weatherall, Red Axes and Romanian minimal, as well as classic New York house and disco". Bookings so far have included Ivan Smagghe, Musclecars, Galcher Lustwerk, Coloring Lessons, Justin Strauss, Tim Sweeney, Ay Papi, Daniele Angelini and more.
"We want to move Manhattan's recent underground dance music culture away from the pseudo-spiritualism of the global elite and towards something that is more ambiguous, hard to define, with the dance floor being the common thread that unites all of our patrons", the team said of the Outer Heaven ethos.
Outer Heaven is located at 191 Chrystie Street and open from 6 PM Mondays through Saturdays.
In November last year, the electronic music-focused venue Virgo opened on the Lower East Side.
