He beat tough competition from Leon Vynehall, Âme and Dixon, Dusky and Recondite...

Midland, real name Harry Agius, has been revealed as the winner of BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix of the Year by Pete Tong.

The nominees for the gong were revealed on Tong’s show at the beginning of the month (Friday 2nd December), with Midland going up against Leon Vynehall, Âme and Dixon, Dusky and Recondite.

Speaking about his win, Midland said, “Not sure what to say but last night I was awarded Essential Mix of the Year. Still in a state of shock really. I never worked harder on anything than I did on this. Thanks to BBC Radio 1 and the judges for this amazing honour.”

The British selector follows Ben Klock, who won BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix Of The Year in 2015.

It’s been a stellar year for the BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix too, with tINI, Enzo Siragusa and DJ Zinc all spinning in recent weeks.
