London's Night Tube service is to make a partial return from November.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan today (14th October) revealed that the weekend service will return from 27th November, but only on the Victoria and Central lines at first. A full service is expected to resume across other lines at a later date.

The Night Tube service has been suspended since March 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, but there have been numerous calls for its return in recent months, with more than 138,000 people signing a petition asking that TfL reintroduce it.

Calls for the return of the Night Tube have come amid increasing fears for women's safety late at night, as well as recent service issues with apps such as Uber and Bolt that have been put down to greater demand and a shortage of drivers.

Announcing the return of the Night Tube, Sadiq Khan said: "The reason why I was so keen to be the first mayor in London's history to start the Night Tube in 2016, and to restart it now, after the Covid pause, is because I know how important this is to London's thriving night-time economy, to London's recovery and to the confidence and safety of everyone travelling home at night, particularly women and girls.

"I am determined to make our city as safe as possible for all Londoners. That's why I’m delighted to see the return of the Victoria and Central Night Tube lines next month, which will make a huge difference to people travelling around our city at night and making their way home, offering them an additional safe, reliable transport option.

"I will continue to work with TfL and the Government to do everything we can to bring back the full Night Tube network as soon as possible."

An announcement about the return of the Night Tube service was first teased earlier in October, with Khan saying then that Londoners should expect an announcement 'in the next few weeks'.
