Listen to Cassius’ new BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix

It was recorded shortly before Philippe Zdar's death earlier this summer

The latest edition of BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix saw French house pioneers Cassius step up to the decks for a mix that was recorded shortly before the death of Philippe Zdar, who made up one half of the duo, in June of this year.

The mix takes two of the duo's own tracks, alongside music from the likes of Robyn, Laurent Garnier, Marie Davidson, Keinemusik, Hot Natured and MK. It marks their first appearance on Radio 1's long-running mix show since a set of theirs at now-closed London club The End was aired in 1999.

Zdar was killed earlier this year after falling from a window in Paris. His death was met with a wave of tributes from around the dance music community. The duo released their latest album, 'Dreems', just after his death.
