Joy Orbison steps up for Dekmantel’s Selectors compilation series

Londoner’s selections celebrate the UK’s rich musical history

Joy Orbison - real name Peter O’Grady - has compiled the latest instalment in Dekmantel’s much-celebrated Selectors series.

A dizzyingly diverse affair, Selectors 004 incorporates a host of old and new tracks into the equation, with everything from ‘90s drum & bass to techno to breakbeat all featuring. Each track on the release is produced by a British producer, with Klein, L.E. Bass, JP Buckle and Beatrice Dillon among those who’ve got the nod here.

“Soundsystem culture is a thread that runs through almost everything here. It’s had a huge effect on me, sometimes without me even knowing it,” he acknowledged. “The UK at its best is a celebration of diverse cultures intertwining and creating beautiful results. Hopefully this collection of music can document a piece of that. Now more than ever, it seems important to acknowledge and celebrate this.”

Selectors 004 comes off the back of similar editions from Young Marco, Motor City Drum Ensemble and Marcel Dettmann
