Ibiza put back on UK’s amber travel list
Ibiza and the Balearic islands had previously been downgraded to the green list at the end of June
The Balearic Islands are set to be put back on the UK’s amber travel list from 19th July.
Following the downgrading of Ibiza and the rest of the Balearic Islands to green in the UK government's travel list last month, MPs have made the decision to move the islands back up to amber status, meaning that many tourists will now have to self-isolate for up to 10 days upon returning from the countries on the amber list. However, it was recently announced that from 19th July, fully vaccinated tourists will no longer be required to self-isolate upon their return to the UK from amber list countries.
Speaking with Sky News about the decision, which has been made following an increase in coronavirus cases across the Balearics in recent weeks, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said: "we've seen the rates double and also the rate of positivity of these tests double, meaning that we're going to need to move quickly, as we said we might always have to do". The number of new cases per 100,000 people across the Balearic Islands in the last week is 304, and is expected to rise to 531 per 100,000 in the next seven days.
Last week, the Balearic government announced it would be introducing new restrictions in the Sant Antoni area of Ibiza, in order to contain the spread of coronavirus. Meanwhile, yesterday it was reported Ibiza's first test club event, held in June, had reported no new coronavirus infections.
Elsewhere, some clubs and promoters in Ibiza have been revealing plans for later on in the season, with Darius Syrossian's Do Not Sleep event the latest to announce a closing party at Amnesia in October alongside Cinthie, Patrick Topping and Paul Woolford.
