Ibiza lifts restrictions on night-time social gatherings

Ibiza has lifted coronavirus restrictions on night-time social gatherings.

The change is part of a new line of measures, as the island reduces its COVID-19 alert level to the medium risk category, in line with that of the other Balearic Islands.

The new measures came into effect from Wednesday, 15th September, and mean that social gatherings between 2am and 6am will now be able to go ahead without restriction. This will remain the case until 29th September, when the situation will be re-evaluated.

Government officials in the Balearic Islands have moved Ibiza to the medium risk category as a result of rapidly falling COVID-19 infection rates on the island. As of the start of this week, the 14-day cumulative rate of infections on the island has fallen from 350 cases per 100,000 people, the threshold that determined the introduction of tougher restrictions. Epidemiological data from 10th September shows a 14-day cumulative rate of 276.6 cases per 100,000 people.

As part of the new measures, restaurants and bars will now be able to permit eight people to a table indoors, and 12 people to a table outdoors. They must close at 2am still, however.

Masks will remain compulsory inside public premises and on public transport, while smoking will also remain prohibited in bar and restaurant environments. Officials have also announced that passenger locator forms will no longer be necessary for fully vaccinated internal travellers, arriving from other parts of Spain.

At the end of July, Ushuaïa Ibiza reopened for a new open-air, seated event series, called Palmarama.
