History of electronic instruments charted in new book, Synthesizer Evolution: From Analogue to Digital (and Back)

From imposing modular synths to classic Moogs

The history of electronic instruments is charted in a new book, 'Synthesizer Evolution: From Analogue to Digital (and Back)'.

Published by Velocity Press, with a release date set for January 2021 and pre-orders currently being taken, author Oli Freke has conducted painstaking research in order to chronicle the development of synthesizers since their introduction in the 1960s through to today.

"This book has grown out of a life-long obsession with synthesizers and electronic music, and it’s fantastic to be able to share this with my fellow synth obsessives and electronic music fans who celebrate the synth’s role in modern music," said Freke.

2020 has seen a number of books unveiled that document the historic timelines of electronic production processes. 'Bedroom Beats & B-Sides' looks at hip hop, trip hop, IDM and more from a beatmaker's perspective, while 'ABC Of UKG' tells the story of UK garage.
