Hardwell shares Instagram series documenting his rise to stardom

Dutch star looks back over last 16 years after beginning indefinite break from touring

Starting last week, Dutch EDM star Hardwell, aka Robbert van de Corput, has recently taken to his Instagram to share the #StoryOfHardwell with a series of pictures and images documenting his rise to fame.

In this time he’s revealed to his 5.1m Insta followers how he began DJing in 2002 aged just 14, securing 12 gigs in his first year behind the decks. An old photo provides a glimpse of him as a fresh faced teen surrounded by music gear in his parents home, while a recording of an early Eminem bootleg reveals how he got his first big breakthrough when it was played on Holland's Radio 538.

Promising to reveal more from the last 16 years, fans will be able to trace the steps of an artist who was voted number one in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs poll in 2013 and 2014. This year he was voted number three.

In September Hardwell announced that he was taking an indefinite break from touring. You can watch his "final" show here.

Prior to the hiatus, he auctioned off a limited edition signed copy 2YearsAsOne, the book charting his two years as number one, with the money raised going Unicef.
