Hamburg club Golden Pudel protected as a “site of cultural worth”

The future of the iconic venue is finally secure...

Hamburg club Golden Pudel, which has cemented the careers of names such former DJ Mag cover star Helena Hauff, has been given protected status as a “site of cultural worth”.

The new definition will mean the club will not have to worry about economic factors or encroaching property developments in the surrounding area, and was made possible after owner Rocko Schamoni transferred 50% of his share to the Golden Pudel Foundation, with the other half acquired by the Mara & Holger Cassens Foundation for the Support of Art and Culture via auction two years ago.

A major relief for all involved, the space has been under increasing pressure from external forces looking to capitalise on the valuable real estate the address occupies, with a crowdfunding campaign helping place the space in the hands of the local community in 2016, before a devastating fire the same year further jeapardised its future.
