Fred again.. is The Highest New Entry in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs 2023.

Few have had a year like Fred again... From a four-date residency at Alexandra Palace, as part of a sell-out world tour, to closing out Coachella’s second weekend alongside Skrillex and Four Tet, the London-based DJ and producer has scaled new heights — if that was even possible. In the process, he’s become a ubiquitous presence in both underground and mainstream circles, and fittingly earned a spot in this year’s Top 100 DJs poll as the highest new entry.

Fred again.., AKA Fred Gibson, also kept the production wheel turning in 2023, dropping the earth-shattering January single ‘Rumble’ with Skrillex and Flowdan, as well as the piano successor to his beloved ‘Actual Life’ album series. These high-profile collaborations have become a hallmark of Gibson’s output, alongside his quirky, diaristic production style, which involves stitching together vocal snippets with "found sounds". Continuing to push himself creatively, the producer also performed a coveted NPR Tiny Desk Concert this summer, which involved re-learning the marimba, playing the vibraphone, singing at the piano, and looping sounds and beats — all at the same time. It’s hard to see how next year could be more momentous for Fred again.., but he’s not one to shy away from a challenge.
