Fatboy Slim honoured by BIMM University, announces emerging talent scholarship
The Brighton-based modern institute recognised local hero Norman Cook as he launches The Fatboy Slim Martlets Scholarship
BIMM University in Brighton has awarded Fatboy Slim with an honourary fellowship, corresponding with the launch of his new scholarship programme.
The modern music and arts institute recognised local hero Norman Cook for his longtime contributions to the music industry at a graduation ceremony last Thursday, 8th February. Cook used the occasion to announce his new initiative, The Fatboy Slim Martlets Scholarship, for emerging musical talent.
The scholarship will cover all tuition fees for a complete three-year undergraduate degree for one student starting in the 2024-2025 academic year. There'll also be additional training, skills and career development opportunities. The programme is encouraging potential students from low-income households and backgrounds underrepresented in the music industry to apply.
"Two of the most vital parts of my life recently have been the world of arts and music and my role as an ambassador for Martlets hospice", Cook said. "Having a scholarship in our joint name allows one student who wouldn’t normally have access to the start in a career that a degree from BIMM will enable to learn from the best in the business in the name of Brighton's unique and wonderful Hospice."

Cook is often supporting Brighton institutions, like playing a surprise gig at famed pub The Prince Albert this past October as it was threatened by property development in the area. He released a second documentary on his infamous 2002 free rave on Brighton Beach in February 2023.
This summer, Fatboy Slim will head out on tour of the UK and Ireland under the 'Love Summer' banner. The eight-show run starts in Dublin in June and closes out in Halifax at the end of August.
Cook's Southern Fried Records released DC producer Baby Weight's debut on the label 'Fear Is The Weapon' in November.
