Faithless announce first live show in eight years: ‘A homage to Maxi Jazz’
The legendary electronic act will perform a combination of “old and new music” at this summer’s Camp Bestival, Shropshire
Faithless have announced their return to the live stage for the first time in eight years, with a show paying homage to late frontman Maxi Jazz.
The legendary English electronic act will return for this year’s edition of Camp Bestival Shropshire – the sister show to the Dorset UK family festival – set to take place from 15th to 18th August at Weston Park. Performing with a full live band, Faithless’ show will “incorporate old and new music”, according to a statement shared by the festival, which added that it will be a “homage to Maxi and a celebration of all that is wonderful about the genre they redefined.”
Faithless’ appearance at Camp Bestival is reportedly only one of two festivals they have planned for 2024. However, having recently wiped their social media pages, the band have sparked rumours that more Faithless shows may be on the horizon.
Speaking about their return to the stage, Sister Bliss from Faithless said: “We are so happy to announce the return of Faithless to the live arena after eight years away, and we can’t think of a better way to return than to the hallowed fields of Camp Bestival, in all their joyful glory.”
“This will be one big celebration – we can’t wait for you to come join us; it’s going to be an exciting summer ahead.”
During the performance, the band will pay tribute to bandmate and vocalist Maxi Jazz who passed away in December 2022, aged 65. In a statement shared to Facebook following his death, the group commemorated Jazz as “a brilliant lyricist, a DJ, a Buddhist, a magnificent stage presence, car lover, endless talker, beautiful person, moral compass and genius.”
Jazz lent his distinctive spoken word delivery and poetic lyricism to hits such as ‘Insomnia’ and ‘God is a DJ’, which helped Faithless become recognised as one of the most prominent acts in British electronic music. In the months after his passing, ‘Insomnia’ climbed to the top 10 of the Beatport Top 100, three decades after its release.
Orbital will also perform at Camp Bestival this year, following the upcoming re-release of ‘The Green Album’, a remastered edition of their debut 1991 record.
