Dua Lipa announces “psychedelia, trip-hop, and Britpop” inspired album, ‘Radical Optimism’
Released in May, the record is based on "the idea of going through chaos gracefully and feeling like you can weather any storm"
Dua Lipa has shared details of her third album, 'Radical Optimism'.
The album is described as being inspired by "psychedelia, trip-hop, and Britpop". It will land on 3rd May. Watch a teaser for the album below.
The artist previously explained the forthcoming record, her first since 2020's dance-influenced 'Future Nostalgia', as "a psychedelic-pop-infused tribute to UK rave culture”. Acts including Massive Attack and Primal Scream were cited as influential.
The British-Albanian, London-raised star has now shared more details about the 11-track record, which is described as an embodiment of the rawness, honesty, confidence and freedom of 1990s UK indie.
“A couple of years ago, a friend introduced me to the term Radical Optimism. It’s a concept that resonated with me, and I became more curious as I started to play with it and weave it into my life,” she said.
“It struck me – the idea of going through chaos gracefully and feeling like you can weather any storm. At the same time, I found myself looking through the music history of psychedelia, trip hop, and Britpop," she continued. "It has always felt so confidently optimistic to me, and that honesty and attitude is a feeling I took into my recording sessions.”
Released in November 2023, the album's first single, 'Houdini' was produced by Kevin Parker of Tame Impala and Danny L Harle. Last week, she released the video for another new single, 'Training Season'.

Dua Lipa has just been announced as a headline act at 2024's Glastonbury festival. Earlier this month, she opened the BRIT Awards, and walked away with her seventh win at the ceremony, for Best Pop Act. She was also first to perform at the GRAMMYs in February, and recently became the only female artist to have four songs with more than 2 billion Spotify streams — 'One Kiss', 'Don't Start Now', 'New Rules', and 'Levitating'.
