Discogs announces its inaugural cassette week

The week corresponds with Cassette Store Day on 13th October...

Discogs has announced the inaugural Cassette Week for 8th-13th October, recognising the resurgence in tape sales and popularity over the previous few years.

Culminating in a ‘Cassette Store Day’ on Saturday 13th October, the Discogs community will celebrate the cassette format with online contributions from Sean Bohrman (Burger Records), Zak Taylor and Ben Blackwell (Third Man Records).

Cassette Store Day started in 2013 in the UK and now has events in Europe, Japan and the US, part of a movement that has helped revitalized a format that had been considered by many to be totally futile.

Cassette sales' growth was 29.54% from 2016 to 2017 on the Discogs marketplace and 35.19% in 2018.  Taking into account the market outside Discogs, the revival seems even bigger – with cassette sales rising by 90% in the first half of this year, according to Official Charts
