Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter to soundtrack new Salvador Dalí film via Ed Banger
“Let’s start 2024 with something very special!” said the French imprint
Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter is set to release his soundtrack to a new Salvador Dalí film via Ed Banger.
On 9th January, the Parisian imprint announced via Instagram that they will release the legendary French musician, producer and DJ’s soundtrack to DAAAAAALÍ on 7th February. Directed by French filmmaker and musician Quentin Dupieux, AKA Mr. Oizo, the French comedy film - which is released on the same date - has been described as a "real fake biopic" about the surrealist artist Salvador Dalí.
Bangalter's soundtrack will be released as a limited edition 10" including a poster. Posting on Instagram, Ed Banger said: “Let’s start 2024 with something very special!”, the label wrote. “Thrilled to welcome Thomas Bangalter on Ed Banger records for the release of the original soundtrack of DAAAAAALÍ.”

The release comes just under year on from Bangalter releasing ‘Mythologies’, his first album since the end of Daft Punk. The long-awaited release comprised Bangalter's orchestral ballet score for the Angelin Preljocaj piece of the same name, which has been in the works since 2021.
Bangalter's only other solo album to date is also a score, for the 2002 Gaspar Noé film Irréversible. As Daft Punk, Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo scored the 2010 Tron: Legacy film, which later got a special remix edition.
In August last year, Bangalter confirmed fan speculation that the pivotal Daft Punk records ‘Homework’ and ‘Discovery’ were recorded in his bedroom.
‘Homework’ was released in 1997 followed by ‘Discovery’ four years later in 2001. Both records are considered dance classics, as explored in-depth by DJ Mag contributor Gabriel Szatan, whose book on Daft Punk, After Daft, will be released this year.
