Copenhagen club Motopol will close its doors for good this month.

The venue's team announced the forced closure on Instagram last week, 8th February, writing the venue "cannot be permitted for cultural activities". They have two weeks to vacate the premises.

The community and cultural space's organisers said the decision was made "despite the support of [Danish cultural committee] Kultur- og Fritidsforvaltningen, the local council and the landlord", and "alongside our best efforts to follow the rules by creating a fire plan, soundproofing and applying for temporary and permanent alcohol licenses".

The team said they will continue to host parties, community dinners and workshops at other local venues, as well as advocate for the city's cultural scene and wellbeing. "We will continue to fight for better conditions for cultural and creative communities and platform art, music, culture and political issues that we as a community find important", they wrote.

To give the Laplandsgade 6B location, which opened in 2023, a proper send-off, Motopol is hosting a closing party this Friday, on 16th February. "Join us as we put the fun in funeral, and celebrate the epic, if short lived life of our beloved culture house/auto repair shop", organisers wrote on Instagram. The lineup features DJ 2LATE, Adam Eisert, Anna Logic, Derriere Massive, Godi and more.

Copenhagen said goodbye to the Vesterbrogade 2b venue Ved Siden Af in October 2022.
