The US-based chart takes into account "creations, video views and user engagement" to present the 50 biggest tracks on TikTok

Billboard launches TikTok Top 50 chart highlighting most popular music on platform

Music industry charting body Billboard is keeping track of the most popular music on TikTok with a new chart in collaboration with the social video platform.

The new, US-based TikTok Billboard Top 50 Chart analyses "creations, video views and user engagement" by US users to tally the 50 "hottest" songs of the platform every week, according to the official announcement. New weekly charts will be released on Thursdays.

The inaugural chart is topped by Sexyy Red's 'SkeeYee', followed by Doja Cat's 'Paint the Town Red' and Taylor Swift's 'august'. Sexyy Red makes five chart total appearances, just under Taylor Swift's six — the most for any single artist on the chart. Further down the list is Ice Spice, Gunna, Charlie Wilson, Dazz Band, Young Thug and Drake.

Last year, TikTok launched Sound On, a music distribution platform that gives artists 100% of their royalties in the first year and 90% in the years after.
