Berlin nightclubs are giving shelter to homeless people

Two Berlin nightclubs are opening their doors to homeless people this winter.
The clubs, Astra Kulturhaus and Bi Nuu, both based in the Kreuzberg-Friedrichshain district of the German capital, will be offering shelter one night a week in January and February.
The German newspaper Der Tagesspiel states that Bi Nuu will have accomodation for up to 15 women, while Astra Kulturhaus has space for up to 25 men.
Sara Lühmann, press spokeswoman for the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district, says that it's "great when clubs make such offers and take on social responsibility".
She added, "We are happy about every additional offer to further expand the number of cold weather places."
The two clubs join 920 other emergency sleeping places in Berlin this winter, to help accommodate an estimated 6000-8000 homeless in the city.
The news follows a slice of festive goodwill from globetrotting producer Steve Aoki, who delivered food to the homeless over Christmas.
