A new beginners course in radio production and broadcasting has been launched in Bristol.
Created to provide a safe and welcoming space for women, non-binary and people in other gender minorities to upskill and develop in the field, the DJ initiative is the brainchild of non-profit organisation Saffron in collaboration with Noods Radio. Starting on 7th June, the 8-week course will be taught by Manami and Tilly, two residents from the independent Bristol radio station.
According to organisers, the course’s weekly 2-hour sessions will provide "8 women and non-binary people in Bristol with the tools, confidence and space to develop their own idea for a radio show. Under the wing of Saffron and Noods’ supportive and creative community, participants will get an introductory guide to producing radio shows, from show planning, recording and editing, to marketing, presenting and interview techniques."
On 1st August, the students will participate in an 8-hour takeover day on Noods, and each one will have the opportunity to present their own 1-hour show live on the radio.
Participants of all skill levels are encouraged to apply, which can be done here. No previous DJ or radio experience is necessary. Tickets for the course are priced at £145, with free and discounted places also available.
