A$AP Rocky found guilty of assault by Swedish court
The incident occured in June
A$AP Rocky has been found guilty of assault by a Swedish court for his part in a fight that took place in Stockholm earlier this summer, resulting in a suspended sentence for him and two of his entourage.
The court has ruled that the assault was “not of such a serious nature that a prison sentence must be chosen”.
The rapper – real name Rakim Mayers– who has previously collaborated with Swedish House Mafia, was first released on 2nd August with his two bodyguards pending a verdict. All three argued self-defence, and had returned to the US.
Footage from the incident, which took place on June 30th, was posted to A$AP Rocky's Instagram and shows a man assault one bodyguard with a pair of headphones. Fans expressed outrage at the trial, with US President Donald Trump wading-in to ask questions about the fairness of Sweden's judicial system.
The court ruled that A$AP and his bodyguards were "not in a situation where they were entitled to self-defence", adding that they "assaulted the victim by hitting and kicking him as he lay on the ground. The artist has also thrown the victim to the ground and stepped on his arm."
