London's Southbank Centre is to host a special short film programme and party which will explore the rave scene of '90s Poland.

Rave: Recharge, scheduled to take place at Queen Elizabeth Hall on Friday, 22nd March, will take in the screening of eight short films which aim to uncover the links between rave culture and contemporary art in the country in the final decade of the 20th century.

"Techno was a key motif of the raves and underground dance events which took hold in Poland alongside the transformation in the political and economic system in the early 1990s," reads a description shared by Southbank Centre. "On one hand, raves were an expression of the optimism of this period of transformation. On the other, they manifested the anxieties of those times of social and technological acceleration."

The screenings will be followed by a special edition of Southbank Centre's Concrete Lates party series, where Polish DJs Catz 'n Dogz, GW Harrison and Blanka Barbara will explore three decades of Polish electronic music. In 2021, Polish writer Bartłomiej Kluska explored the history of techno parades and dance music subcultures in the Polish city of Łódź in the book Technowulkan – Freedom Parades In Łódź.
