Premiere: Gaspa ‘tamani’

Lyon-via-Bamako label, Blanc Manioc, readies a new compilation, ‘Nyamakalabeats#1’. Hear the rolling percussion of Bamako afrobeats producer Gaspa’s ‘tamani’ now

Established between Lyon, France and Bamako, Mali, the Blanc Manioc label has been making steady waves since launching in January this year.

With six releases under its belt already, the label will release a new compilation this Friday 22nd November, featuring artists from Mali, South Africa and France. ‘Blanc Manioc presents: Nyamakala beats #1’ is distributed by Universal Africa, with ‘Nyamakala’ translating from the Malian language of Bambara to mean ‘antidote of evil’.

Alongside artists such as MC Waraba & Meleke Tchatcho, Shujaa Bora, Afriq2000, there is Gaspa, one of the most prolific producers of Afrobeats, rap and trap in Bamako. You can hear one of two tracks he has featured on the comp below, ‘tamani’, a percussive instrumental roller with playful swerving bass and bouncy sampling.
