Premiere: Ariel Zetina 'I Miss The Sea'

Smartbar resident Ariel Zetina will release her second EP 'Organism' this week via Majía. Hear 'I Miss The Sea', a mesmerising fusion of house, techno and modern classical now...

Chicago-based DJ/producer Ariel Zetina makes music that is as thrilling as it is uncategorisable. With techno as the foundation, she delves into spheres of ambient, Chicago house and industrial, from the most abrasive edges of hardcore to the outskirts of modern classical, with allusions to the punta and brukdown sounds of her Belizean heritage.

Also a resident DJ at Chicago's smartbar club, she follows on from her 2017 release 'Cyst' with her new EP 'Organism', landing this Friday (19th April) via Majía. With jittery breakbeats layered over choice vocal samples layered over the brittlest of drones, it's nothing short of superb.

'I Miss The Sea', arguably the release's highlight, is a gorgeously inscrutable whirlwind, with guest Paula Nacif's airy vocals loosely mediating electronic harp and an incongruously frantic house tempo, all as an ode to the ocean she feels emotionally disconnected from, and in tribute to the physical disconnect between her and her family back in Belize an ocean away. She also dedicates the track to the memory of Don Washington, a friend and vital figure of the Chicago club community who sadly passed recently. Check it out below.
