In this series, Selections, we invite DJs, producers and label heads to dig into their digital crates and share the contents of their Bandcamp collections. While hearing new music played out by your favourite selectors has been put on hold as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, it’s never been easier, or more important, to support the artists and imprints releasing tracks, albums, EPs and comps in the midst of all the madness. In lieu of opportunities to discover new records on the dancefloor, Selections will give you the chance to nab sounds from the crates of tastemakers, and support the people behind them while you’re at it. Win-win, right?

This week, ABSOLUTE. spotlights sunkissed house and breaks, hypnotic electro and high-energy rhythms from the likes of Octo Octa, India Jordan, Mall Grab, Traxman and DJ Overdose:  an electrifying round-up of sounds tailor-made for dancefloors the London DJ will be playing to once the clubs reopen and festivals get rolling. Despite the pandemic, ABSOLUTE. has been building his name as a producer and DJ in the past year, most recently in his collaboration with vocalist BKLAVA on the nostalgic rave cut, ‘Fired Up (ABSOLUTE. Edit)’, and on his own recent singles ‘Piano Theory’ and ‘Fauna’. His summer is taking shape too, with his ‘Wonderland’ mixtape set to drop on 7th May, and a socially distanced launch party at Islington Assembly Hall scheduled for 19th June. In the meantime, dig into ABSOLUTE.’s Selections below.

Octo Octa
‘Goddess Calling’ [T4T LUV NRG]

“Have so much respect for Octo Octa, she always hits a sweet spot of nostalgic breaks vibe and just the right amount of energy and nuances that evolve throughout the track, like a beautiful story that I want to be a part of. ‘Goddess Calling’ is one of my favourites so far.”

Dauwd
‘Idris’ [Psssh Records]

“Adore this track from Dauwd, feels so warm with just the right amount of analog distortion throughout, gorgeous live drums, and jumping bass and a spoken word make this one of my current favs.”

Saturday Night Rush
‘Open’ [There Is Love In You]

“I really love the energy on this one and the ‘open your heart’ message, piercing warm arps combine with analog drums, then a low driving bass comes in pushes everything forward, completed by lots of reverse beat details. I’m sold. Played this on my residency stream for Maya Jane Coles and had to also include in a recent cover mix.”

India Jordan
‘And Groove’ [Ninja Tune]

“Everything India does seems to hit the right notes, so happy they’re breaking through in a big way. I’ve loved them since I first heard ‘Warper’ in 2019. This first from their new EP on Ninja Tune, brings their trademark house with warm chops, firing drums and catchy vocal loop. Can’t wait to hear the rest of the EP.”

X-Coast
‘Bomba’ [Unknown To The Unknown]

“I love this track. It feels like I’m back in Turnmills at Trade listing to Tony De Vit. So much energy! I loved the energy it brought in a recent cover mix. There’s some great forthcoming music from X-Coast on Steel City Dance Discs you should look out for.”

Mall Grab
'Steel City Dance Discs Volume 20’ [STEEL CITY DANCE DISCS]

“Another of my favourite producers and one of my most talented friends. Mall Grab never fails to bring the energy, he mixes things up on this EP with a blend of warming house, direct techno pumpers and dusty breaks.”

Fear-E
‘Melters Vol 2’

“Glasgow based Dixon Avenue Basement Jam regular, Fear-E has a host of high energy pumpers. If you’re after some peak time synth lead raw house and techno then get into him immediately.”

DJ Overdose
‘Time I Get Nasty’ [L.I.E.S.]

“Tasty hypnotic electro breaks from Rotterdam veteran, DJ Overdose. Copped this one off his first full length on L.I.E.S.”

Craig Williams
‘Time / That Thing You’ [EARUHAVEIT]

“Chuggy techno that hits that sweet spot of making you move while still being nice and stripped back. If that’s your vibe, you should check out the other releases from the personal label project of Turbo label boss, Francis Le Disko / Due Diligence.”

Traxman
‘Am From Chicago’ [Corky Traxman Strong]

“So many amazing tracks to choose from on this belter of an album. Fast, fun and full of colour and energy. ‘Am From Chicago’ is a winner and ‘Party Down’ and ‘Supa High’ are also on rotation.”
