Premiere: Tony Quattro & Siete Catorce ‘The Cat ft. Lua Preta (Nikki Nair Remix)’

Tony Quattro & Siete Catorce will release a new EP, ‘Move Like A Fish’, later this month. Listen exclusively to Nikki Nair’s remix of ‘The Cat ft. Lua Preta’ below.

Their debut collaboration, arriving via Anna Morgan and Bell Curve’s Worst Behavior Recs, finds both producers at the peak of their percussive powers as they pull from their thriving collection of global club influences. Across three new original cuts, the duo serve up sparse atmospheres and intricate drum work, with a healthy splash of club-tuned heft chucked in for good measure.

‘Qesem Cave’ is a deep, dissonant mix of syncopated drumming along with moody, hypnotic sweeps and unsettling slaps of bass, while the dancefloor-adjacent ‘Move Like A Fish’ marries its juddering dembow rhythms with an earworming diva vocal. The weird and warping ‘The Cat’, featuring Angolan production duo Lua Preta, cements the duo as masters of hybridising futuristic sound design with more traditional elements.

Speaking on the project, Quattro said: “For me personally, the vibe of the record definitely strikes some ritualistic, ancestral chords while hinting at the presence of other dimensions and spirits interacting with our world.”

On the flip, Atlanta-based producer Nikki Nair – who showcased his own wide palette and varied tempos on a recent link-up with Hudson Mohawke – brings his signature peak-time flavour to the project. Serving up a stuttering, jungle-tinged refit of ‘The Cat’, he rounds out one of Worst Behaviour’s most feverish releases of the year.
