London label Funky Adjacent join the dots between UK funky and global percussive genres on their debut V/A compilation
Funky Adjacent will release its debut V/A compilation later this week. Have an exclusive first listen to Tinika’s track, ‘DO IT’, below.
Featuring nine burgeoning producers across three continents, ‘Funky Adjacent VA1’ joins the dots between UK funky and numerous global percussive genres, with pitstops in bouncy bass and techno. UK representatives SPD, Darama, CA$TLE and label head Calm Stiege, are joined across the debut compilation by Strict Face, Tinika and Burna from Australia, alongside US powerhouse Ovid and Lúnasa from Ireland.
In keeping with her dedication to amplifying the UK Funky scene in Australia, Naarm-based Tinika delivers fast and funky-grime heat on her contribution, ‘DO IT’. Pre-loaded with the fearless energy of her DJ sets – which have taken her across Aus and beyond – the cut balances pummelling bass and punchy kicks with an undercurrent of heavenly arpeggios for maximum dancefloor impact.
Speaking on the single, Tinika shared: “Doin’ it for all the queer, Black women in the underground Australian music scene - we out here, and we just getting started.”
