R U OFF will release his debut album, ‘Shift’, later this month. Listen exclusively to ‘Missing Things’ below.

Having racked up production credits for Metro Boomin, Mac Miller, Future and more, as one half of producer duo David x Eli, the Bavaria-born, Berlin-based artist makes an unsurprisingly mighty splash on his long-awaited solo project. Across nine dark and cinematic cuts, R U OFF (real name David Ruoff) calls forth a Dune-like apocalypse with crashing synthesisers, golden era boom-bap beats, and oscillating lo-fi textures.

Trippy, post-dubstep swells with increasing ferocity on ‘Years’, featuring Australian vocalist and producer Kyson, while ‘Dash’ pays homage to Ruoff’s adopted home of Berlin with sci-fi synthwork and a merky, subby pulse. The big-screen ambience continues to bubble throughout the release, reaching an apex on soaring mid-track ‘Missing Things’. Here, euphoria-tinged club beats and a warm, cooing vocal summon a feeling of light on the horizon, before being eclipsed by a sea of Amen breaks and rowdy 808 claps.

Listening to a David Ruoff production has always felt like jetting off into the cosmos, but on his inaugural solo voyage, the producer takes his world-building to new, unprecedented heights.

‘Shift’ is out digitally on 30th November. Listen exclusively to ‘Missing Things’ below.
