Plus One and Preference link up on two nimble, bass-led bangers for Optmst’s Ayeland Audio imprint

Having spent the past twelve months shelling dub delights on the Northern Irish underground circuit and beyond, the Belfast-based DJ and producer emerges from the studio with a new dual offering. Murmurating between dub-infused ambient, braindance, and early bass music, ‘Pinch’ packs a mighty cerebral punch while adhering to Preference’s trademark dancefloor principles. Nuanced, metallic textures and fizzing FX swoop around abyss-like bass and drums across the cuts seven-minute runtime, exploring full-screen ambience, clubby breakdowns, and all the hybridised spaces between.
The track arrives alongside a remix from Dublin’s Plus One which introduces a pummelling four-four techno kick. Having previously released techno heat on the city’s premiere underground labels, including First Second Label and Woozy, the Bangor-based producer interposes a deft, muscular beat beneath the bass-led braindance of Preference’s original.
The project lands on Optmst’s Ayeland Audio imprint, launched intitially as a home for the Bangor-born artist’s productions at Vault Artist Studios – an old Belfast college building that was repurposed to house around eighty different artists all from different artistic and social backgrounds.
