Since the 2013 release of his debut album, ‘Doppelganger’, Sahej Bakshi, aka Dualist Inquiry, has been at the forefront of India’s proliferating alt-electronic scene. Now, over a decade since cooking up his first bedroom beats, the New Delhi-based producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist is gearing up to release his third studio album, ‘When We Get There’.

The nine-track project – out 16th February – is undoubtedly Bakshi’s most expansive yet, curving away big-room synths and drops that proliferated 2016’s ‘Dreamcatcher’, to merge sounds from across the Indian diaspora with hints of UKG, soaring electro, breaks and more. Final single ‘Bloom’ doubles down on the more introspective touchstones of the producer’s sound, layering blissed-out arps and bubbly ambient textures onto a shuffling breakbeat for some serious late-night naval-gazing.

“Bloom is a bit more sombre and reflective,” Bakshi shared on the cut. “When I listen to it, I think of heading out into the sea at night, having to trust my capacity to orient and stay the course in spite of not being able to see where I’m going. I wanted to write a song that captured the feeling of reaching the apex of a long saga, a moment where things become clear, where the feeling of struggle turns into empowerment.”

Dualist Inquiry is also gearing up to debut his brand-new live AV show at festivals like Magnetic Fields in Rajasthan and Lollapalooza India later this summer.

‘When We Get There’ is out 16th February. ‘Pre-order the album here, and have an exclusive first listen to ‘Bloom’ below.
